This blog is experiencing technical difficulties! In the blog refresh and switchover, there are still some kinks to work out before I can do a normal post. But that’s OK, because we have other news, plus a new word for you, and that is:
Epoustouflant! Our mot du jour means flabbergasting, and what’s amazing today is that Kristin Espinasse has a new book out! Amazing that she’s produced another great book, époustouflant that she’s been treating us to French Word-a-Day for a couple of decades now!
Many, maybe most of you, are followers of her wonderful blog at French-Word-a-Day, and if so, the book release may not be news to you. Let’s all help her launch her book on March 6, and get her to the top of Amazon’s list, so even more people can learn about her work. Here are the details from Kristi:

Dear Readers,
In just one week—on March 6th—my paperback memoir will officially launch! This full-color, 308-page labor of love is finally ready to meet the world. But will the world be able to find it? That’s where you come in!
I need your help. If you’ve been thinking about getting a copy of A Year in a French Life for yourself—or for a friend—Thursday is the day to do it. A strong start is crucial, as early sales will not only help my book gain visibility online but also increase its chances of being stocked in libraries, local bookstores, and even considered for school reading lists, book clubs, and travel collections.
Here’s how you can make a big difference:
- Mark your calendar for March 6th
- Buy your copy on launch day
- Share this with a fellow book lover
Your support means everything to me, and I’m so grateful for your help in making this book a success.
One more thing: I’ll be back in one week, via my newsletter, with a special purchase link. 📖 Stay tuned for that important update!
Merci beaucoup! 🇫🇷
Kristi
And a huge thank you to you, Kristi, for sharing your French life so intimately with us over the years, and for personally helping me out with my blogging voyage.
In the COMMENTS: Julie, un élair vanille a few times a week is an excellent habit. Sandy, I love that your pastry-testing is a life-long mission. There are so many pâtisseries in France, it might take more than a lifetime to hit them all. Carolyn, great idea to spoil your tour attendees with tea and pâtisisseries in Pommard. Want to get in on one of Carolyn’s great tours? Check out her website, Your Key to Burgundy.
Favorite READS: First of all, be sure to check out the books now pictured and linked on the sidebar. These are books by our readers. A list I’m still compiling. If I’ve left you out, please drop me an email or leave it in the comments section.
Natalia has her usual book for us,. She says this one is one of her favorites, and coming from our honorary book editor, that’s saying something: Check out Last Twilight in Paris. I’m reading a wine book my great friend Pascale loaned me, called Un Américain dans Vignes. If you want to read Robert Camuto in English, try Corkscrewed: Adventures in the New French Wine Country. And of course, don’t forget to order A Year in a French Life on March 6.
